In the summer of 2021, as US and Allies planned to withdraw from Afghanistan, we realised that Afghan women would have their rights acutely curtailed and so we put out a petition for the Government to prioritise their needs - it got 470K signatures (Petition · Protect the freedom and safety of Afghan women and girls · Change.org).
Then we assembled resources to try and get the most vulnerable women out of Afghanistan to the UK and increasingly to other countries; When it was clear that only 2% of "principals" who came to the UK during “Operation Pitting” were civilians and only 11 women rights activists, we pushed for an asylum route for Afghan women at risk. Please see this article (Afghanistan one year on: Afghan women and girls deserve more than empty promises from the UK | The Independent), letter signed by British MPs, Afghan women leaders, charities and activists (Truss and Sunak urged to help Afghan women as only 11 activists settle in the UK since Taliban takeover (inews.co.uk)) and a recent article speaking about the letter sent by British MPs to the Foreign Secretary (UK's failure towards Afghan women and girls left under Taliban rule an 'abomination' (inews.co.uk)).
Action for Afghanistan also campaigned for the creation of an All-Party Parliamentary Group for Afghan Women and Girls and are pleased to say that this will soon be formalised in the next few weeks in Parliament.
